(^This is as close to a ‘Summer’ photo of campus as I have!)
“Did you have a good Summer?” Now we’re all settled back into University life, I can guarantee you have been asked this at least 10 times over the past few weeks. No longer in first year, it becomes the new ‘icebreaker’ question. Gone are the fresher’s conversation starters of “which halls are you in?” or “what do you study?” – Now everyone wants to know what you’ve been up to for the last 4 months. So did you have a good summer?
I’m yet to hear a different response to this question than “yes thank you, did you?”, which got me thinking- we all have such different interpretations of what makes a GOOD summer- yet we all claim to have had one! There are so many different ways to spend your time.
In case you’re now wondering (and apologies if you weren’t!) I had a brilliant summer, spending 3 months working as a Summer Intern for a well-known car rental company. I learnt so much in such a short space of time, made new friends for life, and now have an idea of what I want to do when I graduate. Now in my second year studying Business Management, I’m working part-time as a Marketing and Events Assistant for the Careers Service, as is Fiona Miller (3rd year Marketing student)- so look out for our upcoming posts with hints and tips to navigating the wonderful world of careers!
So, whether you did a summer internship, had a part-time job, were on placement, went on holiday, went travelling- or, did absolutely nothing- I hope you all had a fab summer, and are looking forward to the year ahead. With Halloween just around the corner, Bonfire night fast approaching and Christmas gifts already filling the shops, it won’t be long before we are planning our next summer of adventures!
